Card-Playing: Casino Gaming

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

In the name of clarity, a gambling saloon is a construction that focuses on card-playing. At such a place, patrons are expected to enjoy themselves by operating the one armed bandits or trying out alternate wagers. Gaming hall games mainly have mathematically determined percentages incorporated which guarantee the casino holds on to the upper hand over the gambling fans. winner casino

Rather a lot of betting house games can make you end up habituated swiftly. Let’s look at the standard slot-machine, a cash operated appliance with 3, sometimes more reels which revolve if a lever on its side is manipulated. This machine generally pays up in correlation to a run of pictures observable on the front panel of the instrument. Unfortunately, casino games allow the misconception of remaining in control, tricking the gaming devotee — the punter is passed judgments, but in actual fact these will never really nix the patron’s long-term negative odds. This is caused by the the gaming room never returning the full sum as expected. This method is often seen at work in popular casino games like straight poker, dice, roulette or blackjack.

Seven card stud poker is undeniably a highly popular casino pastime. The visitors, religiously guarding their partially concealed cards, make wagers in a principal pot which is granted to the winning punter in possession of the leading set of cards. (Obviously, the shameless bluff may well prevail as well!) Similar to straight poker, blackjack is likewise a highly fashionable casino pastime. A substantial chunk of its fame is thanks to the mix of chance and competence & choice making, not to mention a trick termed “card counting”. It is a particularly complex technique by which players can change the probabilities of the card game in their favor both by betting and strategic opetations in correspondence with the cards deployed.

“Craps” is a acclaimed casino pastime using the throw of a couple of dice. Patrons will wager on the result of one spin, or on a succession of rolls of 2 dice. In contrast to blackjack, there isn’t any practicable sustainable killer betting system people can capitalize on to beat the odds.

Roulette is another immensely popular casino based pastime: here, a croupier revolves a roulette wheel which has a set of thirty-seven (European roulette) or, respectively exactly 38 (applies to American roulette) differently tagged chambers in which a white pellet will finally come to rest, which signifies the final winning number and the other connected combinations. When a player has bet on a particular number which is successful meaning it’s their lucky day, the guaranteed ward is thirty-five to one, the stake is paid out. Thus in totality the original pledge is increased by a factor of 36.

We strongly recommend you be very much careful nonetheless as such betting house betting games are deemed terribly dependency building. Many lives may have been damaged thru reckless gambling and albeit it definitely might seem like a bit of victimless relaxation, do your best to control oneself.

Weight Room Etiquette For Triathletes

Monday, April 27th, 2009

If its your first time adding weight training to your fitness program, you may not be quite sure of proper weight room etiquette.

Hopefully I can offer a few suggestions that may aid you in avoiding a few of the more common pitfalls.

–First of all, make sure you’re dressed properly. Most facilities insist on proper attire and as a rule its pretty standard. Basically, they don’t want you walking in there in street clothes. Also, they expect the guys to keep their tops on. The most important consideration is proper footwear. Improper footwear can lead to slipping and sliding and possible injury.

–The towels and spray you see beside most weight stations is there for good reason. Its proper etiquette to wipe down a station after you use it. Its pretty uncomfortable and a bit gross to use equipment covered with another persons sweat. It can also be a health hazard.

–If someone’s doing a workout in front of a mirror, don’t walk between that person and the mirror. People do it all the time and its extremely rude.

–Don’t put a water bottle, towel, or article of clothing, or anything else for that matter on a weight bench or piece of equipment you’re not using. Basically you’re preventing anyone else from using that equipment. Set these items down on the floor next to the equipment you are using.

–Don’t start a conversation or interupt in any other way, someone who is in the middle of lifting a weight. I see people do this and just can’t understand it. You can easily cause them to loose concentration and injure themselves.

-Be sure to replace any weights or other equipment to where it belongs after use. This is possibly the pet peeve of any weight room, anywhere.

–Don’t interupt someone to let them know that they’re doing an exercise all wrong. All that does is embarass people. If they want to know, its best to let them ask for help on their own.

–Dropping weights to the floor with a great deal of crashing and banging is a distraction to everyone around you and can also cause damage to the equipment or the floor. It you can’t have it in control when you’re setting it down, then obviously its too heavy for you. Use less weight.

– Also high on the pet peeve scale in any weight room is the loud grunting and groaning that’s meant to impress others and show them how strong you are. Actually, I think it does the exact opposite.

–Some people insist on using the same piece of equipment for half an hour without considering that others may be waiting to use it. I would suggest that you should try and use fifteen minutes as a maximum guideline for any one station. Actually, some weight rooms have signs posted to that effect.

–Finally, if you’re not sure how to use a certain piece of equipment, its always best to ask one of the weight room attendants who are there for that reason. Often other people are on a schedule and its best not to distract them from their workout. Also, they may not be qualified to give you advice on proper technique. The same applies if you want someone to spot for you.

I hope that if you are a first time weight room user that some of these pointers might be helpful to you.

Good luck with your weight training program.

Got the Baquacil Blues?

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

The easy way to change back to chlorine in your pool.

Baquacil was a huge hit when introduced to the pool market in the late 1980’s. While pricey, it gave pool owners the convenience and confidence of a “cook book” solution to the hit or miss job of pool care. If you followed the Baquacil recipe your time invested in keeping your pool water clean and ready was drastically reduced and water quality was rarely a problem. Sound too good to be true?

After a time word began to circulate that it was too good to be true. Too often after two or three years of using the product not only did water quality decline but some weird and unusual infestations took hold in pools on the Baquacil program. Don’t misunderstand, Baquacil is safe and has all the proper approvals but as with other sanitizing systems things can go wrong. Unfortunately with the Baquacil system putting things right again usually involves draining the pool and starting fresh.

If this has happened to you and you’ve decided you want to switch back to good ole chlorine here’s the simplest recipe I know to do it.

1. Shut off your pump and shock your pool with 2 lbs. of granular dichlor per 10,000 gallons. Prepare for a jolt because the pool will almost instantly develop a heavy and unsightly surface scum. This is supposed to happen.

2. Let the scum sit overnight. Next day the scum should be sitting on the bottom of the pool in a fine layer. At this point turn on your pump and set the filter to waste and vacuum the scum out of the pool. You will lose some water during this process.

3. Shut down the pump again and test your water with the Baquacil test kit. If it shows Baquacil still present shock the pool again as in step 1 but use 1 lb dichlor per 10,000 gallons. The scum may reappear but should be much lighter and easier to remove. Let the pool sit overnight, vacuum and retest.

4. If your test kit shows no Baquacil present you can refill the pool and restart on a chlorine program right away.

This program is virtually foolproof and is what the pool chemical manufacturers actually recommend. Instead of having your pool drained and out of service, not to mention the expense of refilling, you’re up and swimming again in a couple of days.

VITALLY IMPORTANT-Never vacuum the scum into your filter or you will have to change your sand or replace your cartridge. Always vacuume to waste during this process. Baquacil is NOT compatible with chlorine products (that’s why it scums up) and is extremely difficult to remove once introduced into a filter.

College Scholarships for Left Handed Students

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Searching for alternative methods like school scholarships to help fund a college education is often difficult and frustrating. These scholarships are not the same as a regular student loan because the funds are a grant, so it doesn’t have to be paid back. While researching methods of funding a university degree, check the many special alternatives, such as scholarships for left handed students.

Southpaw Scholarships

A lefty scholarship may seem a bit unusual, but do consider this: Julius Caesar was left handed, as is Barack Obama. Raphael, Da Vinci, Sting also Winston Churchill were left handed as well. Current statistics suggest 11% of the population are left-handed. Frequently considered more talented artistically and more intelligent, lefthanders have frequently been the victims of discrimination. Today, lefties are no longer stigmatised or thought of as odd, as a matter of fact they may even be linked with the famous individuals mentioned previously. There are various grants accessible specifically for left-handed individuals if you look carefully. The Frederick and Mary F. Beckley Scholarship for 1000 USD is available at Juniata College in Huntington, PA. Presented to scholars attending Juniata College and set up in the seventies, this unique scholarship helps a lot of lefthanded students in their pursuit for a college degree.

Whilst searching for scholarships, be mindful that some of them have prerequisites or restrictions. Sometimes certain grades may be necessary or particular financial requirements have to be satisfied. Do go for for the maximum number of scholarships feasible to step-up your odds of finishing with a minimum amount of debt. Do consider community organisations, clubs and even hobby related groups. Grants for left handed scholars are simply one case; money is also available if you are the child of a veteran or are disabled, for instance.

Looking for scholarships can be time-consuming, of course the reward can be sizable. Any debt accrued by a college education can be diminished by such funds used in conjunction a regular student loan. Be sure to research every scholarship. Remember the alternative choices as well as lefthanded grants – be creative! If you think you might qualify, then apply, keeping any debt to a an absolute minimum, and you’ll look forward to a better financial future after leaving college.

World Cup 2006 Preview – Portugal

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Outright Odds: 22/1
Group D Winners: 5/6

After a disastrous 2002 World Cup, in which they finished bottom of their group following defeats by both the United States and South Korea, Portugal will be looking to finally live up to their potential on the international stage.

Qualification was a breeze. They remained unbeaten in their group and finished seven points clear at the top. Portugal meant business in this group, putting 11 past Luxembourg across two legs and hammering second-favourites Russia 7-1 at home.

The charismatic Luiz Felipe Scolari, or “Big Phil” to his friends, has built a new team to replace the ageing or retired underachievers such as Rui Costa, Joao Pinto and others although Luis Figo, now entering “veteran” status and out of retirement, will be present in Germany. Despite guiding Portugal to the final of Euro 2004 and emphatic World Cup qualification, the public are still not convinced he is the man for the job.

The team’s core is based around four players who won the Champions League with FC Porto in 2004. Defenders Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira and midfielder Maniche – now all at Chelsea and Costinha, now at Dinamo Moscow provide a solid base for the attack-minded stars to play around.

Attacking players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Simao Sabrosa and naturalised Brazilian Deco compliment the side perfectly and create numerous chances for striker Pauleta. The Paris St. Germain hitman overtook Eusebio’s record of 41 international goals with an impressive haul of 11 in qualifying, making him the European zone’s top goalscorer.

Manchester United winger Ronaldo could illuminate the finals with his skills and coveted step-overs. He weighed in with seven qualifying goals from midfield, raising his “Fantasy Football” stock considerably.

Portugal have all the makings of a World Cup winning side: a solid defence, exceptional quality and goalscoring potential from midfield and Europe’s deadliest striker in qualifying.

Their main downfall appears to be the goalkeeping position. Sporting Lisbon’s Ricardo and Quim from Benfica are both vying for the jersey although the supporter’s choice seems to be out-of-favour Vitor Baia. A veteran of the 2002 World Cup side, 36-year-old Baia was omitted from Scolari’s final 23 in the Euro 2004 squad.

Recommended Bet:
The underachieving squad from the past have almost all been replaced by a brand new crop of young talent. Old stagers Luis Figo and Pauleta will look for a final swansong, with the latter a sound each-way bet for top goalscorer status.

Portugal to win Group D @ 5/6
E/W Pauleta as top goalscorer @ 40/1

The Shark Dive at Nassau, Bahamas

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

One of the most interesting dives for any certified scuba diver is the shark dive. During most dives in the Caribbean, seeing a shark is actually a rare occurrence and considered a bonus since they don’t tend to stay around very long if they are sighted anyway. One quick glimpse and they are gone in the distance. This is why the shark dives in the Bahamas were developed. It’s a way to give daring scuba divers a chance to see many sharks up close. These shark dives are available in both Nassau and Freeport in the Bahamas. I had an opportunity to do one of these shark dives during a dive trip to Nassau in the island of Providence.

I went with the scuba operator Dive Dive Dive although Stuart Cove’s also offers shark dives. It was a two tank dive and when we got to the first dive site called Williams Wreck, there were already a few Caribbean reef sharks circling underneath the boat. The music from the movie Jaws started to play in my head. The first dive was a reef site with a small wreck with ample marine life including the sharks that were nearby. They came close to the divers but not too close, much like barracudas. Deepest depth here was 69 feet and the duration of the dive was 36 minutes. The ascent was interesting because at the 15 feet safety stop, the sharks were there checking us out. At one point, there was a shark in between myself and the boat. I was wondering how I was going to get back with the shark in the way but it eventually moved out of the way.

After the first dive, we went over to the dive site close by that would be the location for the actual shark feeding. This dive site was appropriately named Shark Alley. We were told to use a little more weight than usual since we were to spend most of our time during our second dive at the bottom. So I added three more pounds to my weight belt. Again, we could see the sharks in the water during the surface interval but this time, there were more of them. We were instructed to descend to the bottom as quickly as possible and once at the bottom about 50 feet down, we were huddled by one of the divemasters into a single line semi-circle in a sandy open area. Once we were in formation, another divemaster descended from the boat. This was the one who would do the feeding and he was carrying a bucket of treats for the sharks. Almost immediately, over 20 sharks came out of nowhere. My heart started to pound with excitement at this point.

The divemaster with the food was wearing a chain mesh suit and gloves over his wetsuit. He settled at the bottom about ten feet or so in front of us. For the next 30 minutes, he orchestrated a feeding frenzy as the sharks averaging about 12 feet in length came to him from all angles. He used a steel rod to feed the sharks. Sometimes he would actually tease the sharks with the rod before feeding them. The sharks darted around like torpedoes. I was impressed by how fast and agile they were. Meanwhile, a third divemaster was nearby videotaping the entire scene.

We were told to keep our arms folded in front of us in order not to confuse any shark who might mistake our limbs as lunch. The sharks came so close to us that sometimes they bumped and made contact with a few divers. One shark actually came into the feeding area from behind me and its belly brushed the top of my head. Now that was certainly an experience I’ll never forget! We were told that these sharks were only interested in the food that the divemaster had rather than us. These sharks have been conditioned to these feedings twice per day all week long so they were quite used to the routine now. We all hoped that this was true. A few sharks circled right in front of our semi-circle and when their tails were out in front of us, some divers including myself couldn’t resist reaching out to touch them even though we were not suppose to.

In addition to the sharks, there were also these two groupers who parked themselves in front of our semi-circle as they watched all the activity. They didn’t seem to have any fear of the sharks or divers at all and at one point, one of these groupers actually darted in and took the food from the divemaster’s rod before any of the sharks did.

When the divemaster ran out of food, he tipped the bucket over on its side and almost on cue, all the sharks swam off. It’s like they knew that the feeding had ended and therefore had no more interest in sticking around. When they all left, we still had some time left to search the sand bottom for any shark teeth before returning back to the boat. Of course, most of us eventually did buy the video of our shark dive when we got back to the dive shop. I have played this video to many of my non-diving friends who just watched in horror and disbelief. They just couldn’t understand why anyone would want to jump into the water with sharks around. Of course, experienced scuba divers have a better understanding of shark behavior than the average person but it’s always fun to entertain my non-diving friends with this video. The shark dive is certainly one of the most exciting and memorable dives a scuba diver will ever do.

Hormones’ Affects on Runners

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Hormone levels affect runners endurance. Hormone levels affect ones endurance. Long distance runners having sex to often reduce
their healing ability. This leads to one result injuries. When training for distance events of more than 13 miles it is important to eat right, sleep, exercise, hydrate (lots of water), and abstain from intercourse.

As we age hormone levels decrease making fatigue an inevitable reality. Athletes need to pace themselves. Set a goal of mileage every week and slowly increase the goal adding 5 miles per week.
As we age the mileage should be decreased due to lower hormone levels to prevent fatigue.

The good news is that constant exercise can counter lowering hormone levels and actually increase the growth hormone. The key is to maintain a constant regiment of 4 to 6 days per week with a program. The program itself should change from season to season as your needs change and abilities increase. Increasing hormones will lead in increasing muscle mass and producing anti- aging hormones.
These will help keep you looking younger.

The important thing to remember is that if you can get on a program and keep consistent you can slow down hormonal loss and keep yourself looking young. It is all a balance each part contributing to the whole. Things to consider when training for any kind of long distance event are how long you have been training, sleep, diet, feeling any fatigue, and how often you are having intercourse.
