When Will Children Receive the Protection They Deserve?
Saturday, May 31st, 2008In the year 2000 a woman in Berlin, NH murdered her three-month old baby. His name was Joey Thornton. According to the testimony of his biological mother. He woke her up very early one morning. She states she was feeding him and fell asleep with the baby still in her arms. He slipped out of her arms and hit his head on nearby furniture, fracturing his skull in numerous places.
When baby Joey was autopsied it was found that he had sustained multiple fractures to his head, his ribs were broken and he was suffocated.
His biological mother claims she was suffering from post pardem depression and this is why she did what she did. When the police were first called after baby Joey’s father found him dead in his crib, she tried to blame her husband for the death of this fragile little soul.
The prosecutor allowed this woman to plea bargain her crime to a four year prison sentence and one year at a half way house. How can prosecutor’s allow these types of plea bargains? Especially when a murderer with a bi-polar condition who does not always take her/his medication is a time-bomb waiting to go off and when it does go off claims the life of a helpless child or victim?? And year’s of practice have revealed these issues where anyone with a bi-polar condition who does not always take their medication could commit a violent act. Isn’t caution and precaution supposed to also be included in the processing of all the facts before a plea bargain is arrived at? Ending with sentence that does not fit the crime???
She has a bi-polar condition and does not always take her medications. She has an explosive personality. She bullies people and her surviving seven year-old daughter is absolutely terrified of her mother. Yet, A.F.D.C. authorities allow supervised visits to the mother of this child. The husband of this woman refuses to take his daughter to see her mother, so the A.F.D.C. takes her to these unwanted supervised visits. Stop for one minute to conjecture the fear this little girl must face each time she is forced to see her mother.
The woman who
callously murdered her three-month old defenseless little brother. Murdered him in such a callous heinous manner. What would be your impression of the fear factor this little girl must experience each time she knows she has to go somewhere she does not want to go and is forced to go? What are the future ramifications of her psychological well being or other negative fallout that could easily be the unwanted legacy of this little girl’s life? Our governor’s, state legislator’s, senator’s and other officials must take very seriously the plight of defenseless children who if they survive the death of a sibling they must be forced to visit a parent or the parent who perpetrated this life taking in the first place. I hear the parent has the right to see/visit their biological child, but what about the rights of this unprotected child??
If this woman were a child molestor there would be no qualms or rights which would allow her near her child or any other child. Yet a callous, unremorseful, violent murderer gets to claim her right to see this child. Has she thought about this child’s welfare? Her overall well-being? Has any body else given this child a thought as to how all of this has and is affecting her?? Help bring protection to this little girl and all the children who may fall prey to such as this murderer of helpless infants and children. Remedy needs to happen, yesterday!!!!!
